An oval moonstone intaglio, carved with a dancing figure in flowing drapery, centers this Art Nouveau 14-karat yellow gold ring. A blue enamel frame edges the stone in a double border, meeting enameled pansies at each shoulder. Floral filigree engraving continues down the shank. Unlike a cameo, which is carved in relief, an intaglio is cut into the stone, leaving the design incised below the surface. The elongated navette shape stands the stone upright on the finger, giving the ring a graceful, vertical profile as a statement piece.
